Through a corporate grant, the Disabled Veterans Rest Camp Association (administrator of Veterans Campground) was able to renovate or rebuild all its original cabins from the 1930s to be more accommodating to disabled military veterans. After years of renovating these cabins, the final task remains:
Replacing the 2 foot narrow, cracked sidewalks with ADA compliant sidewalks to allow all veterans full access to all cabins and the camp, whether limited in their mobility and use wheelchairs, scooters, walkeers, etc.
Specifics: In order to provide greater access for disabled and handicapped veterans, Veterans Campground needs to replace 684 feet of narrow sidewalks (from the 1930's) with 4-feet wide, ADA guideline sidewalks as part of its effort to enhance all areas of the camp for disabled and handicapped military veterans. The cost for materials and labor will be approximately $23,000. Most work will be completed by volunteers from the community, local tradesmen, and veterans from the American Legion, VFW, and DAV.
